Tom Brady is the most coveted NFL free agent in years and with free agency closing in, rumors on Brady’s chances of re-signing with the New England Patriots are growing. Now, a new report has cast more doubt on Brady returning to the Patriots.
During an appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast, ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington reiterated that he would be “shocked and stunned” if Brady returned to the Patriots this offseason.
“Now I don’t know where he’s going to play next season,” Jeff Darlington said, via The Adam Schefter Podcast. “I just maintain that I would be very surprised…stunned, shocked, if you will, if Tom (Brady) ends up back in New England.”
Darlington, who is one of the best reporters in the NFL and has ties to the Patriots, cited conversations he’s had over recent weeks, months and even years that indicate Brady won’t return to the Patriots.
While Brady has tried to squash rumors about his decision, many around the NFL have said the chance of a departure is very real. In fact, the Tennessee Titans are confident they have a good chance to land the future Hall of Famer.
While Bill Belichick is overseeing negotiations with Brady and wants him back, he’s also reportedly evaluated veteran quarterbacks to replace Brady.
A few months ago, it seemed impossible that Brady would leave the Patriots after two decades with six Super Bowl rings on his finger. However, the winds are shifting and the move that would send shockwaves through the NFL is now a real possibility.
