The Cincinnati Reds’ big winter took on even new meaning on Monday with the team reportedly signing star outfielder Nicholas Castellanos away from the division-rival Chicago Cubs.
This is no small move for a team that looks like it can contend for the NL Central title in 2020.
Castellanos, 27, hit .289 with an .863 OPS in stops with the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs last season. The veteran also belted a career high 27 homers to go with 73 RBI.
A first-round pick of the Tigers back in 2010, Castellanos is averaging 25 homers and 88 RBI over the past three seasons.
He joins a potent Reds lineup that includes fellow recent acquisitions Shogo Akiyama and Mike Moustakas.
