The Carolina Panthers are looking for a new head coach, and according to Albert Breer of The MMQB they could be looking at Josh McDaniels to fill that role.
Speaking on WFNZ Friday, Breer said, “I think Josh McDaniels and the Panthers have been on each other’s radar for the past year and a half,” per Josh Parcell.
This means the Panthers have been thinking about McDaniels since before the 2018 season started. And when you remember that recently fired head coach Ron Rivera was on the hot seat after the 2018 season, it all seems to make some sense.
The big question here is whether McDaniels is interested in joining another organization, or if he’s holding out for the chance to take over for Bill Belichick in New England. It’s been rumored that McDaniels is a sort of de facto head coach in waiting for the Patriots. And that would obviously be a prime gig.
If McDaniels is interested in becoming the next head coach in Carolina, then the next big question is whether he wants Cam Newton to run the offense, or if he’d be looking to start over from scratch with a fresh face.
