After weeks of waiting, the Minnesota Timberwolves have finally traded star guard Jimmy Butler. On Saturday, Minnesota shipped Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers in a Saturday morning blockbuster trade.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Minnesota will receive forwards Robert Covington, Dario Saric and a future second-round pick for Butler and Justin Patton.
The saga around Butler’s desire started in September and stretched into the season with the turmoil and speculation surrounding Minnesota’s organization. Now in a situation where the Timberwolves had to trade Butler, they receive a compelling return of young talent.
Following the blockbuster trade, Twitter erupted with reactions and analysis to a deal that will surely shake up the NBA landscape.
Don’t know how the chemistry will ultimately work between Butler/Simmons/Embiid, but Philly now has a trio that puts it right back in the mix in the east with Boston, Toronto and Milwaukee.

That’s actually a pretty good return for Minnesota.

Butler is going to give Embiid so much extra material for him to say to KAT on the court. The trash talk from JoJo will be brutal.

Very VERY good trade for Philly. Has to at least make them even odds if not the favorites to win the east now with a big 3 of Butler, Embiid & Simmons https://t.co/dKcGY17Jm6

Philadelphia would be able to offer Jimmy Butler a 5-year max worth about $190M regardless of their other salaries/cap situation (full Bird rights). Any other team would be able to offer 4 years/$141M. https://t.co/tW14PguEy0
