The Dallas Cowboys apparently weren’t alone in thinking that former Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper was worth a first-round pick.
In the lead up to Dallas’ Monday Night Football game against the Tennessee Titans, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News is reporting that these very same Titans were willing to give up a first-round pick to Oakland prior to him being moved to the Cowboys last month.
“Sources indicate the Titans were willing to meet the Raiders asking price of a first round pick for Cooper but wanted to flip draft positions with Oakland on the second day of the draft to soften the blow,” the report read. “The Cowboys were willing to trade a first round pick with no other conditions and acquired the receiver on Oct. 22, hours after a tough loss to division-leading Washington.”
Given that Golden Tate fetched a third-round pick and Demaryius Thomas only netted a fourth-round pick at the trade deadline, this is some rather interesting information.
Dallas had been run through the ringer after giving up a first-rounder for the strugging Cooper.
It’s clear that the Titans are desperate to add pass catchers for the strugging Marcus Mariota under center.
The team released its second-leading receiver from a year ago in Rishard Matthews earlier in the season and lost Pro Bowl tight end Delanie Walker for the duration of the campaign to injury back in September.
For his part, Mariota has thrown three touchdowns compared to five interceptions thus far on the season.
Tennessee and Dallas head into their Week 9 matchup at 3-4 on the season and battling for relevance in the playoff race moving forward. It would definitely be interesting if Cooper burnt the Titans in his Cowboys debut.
