New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown is in the midst of the best season in what has been an unassuming career for the veteran backup.
He’s also dealing with another roadblock in a career that has been full of them. McCown suffered a broken left hand (non-throwing arm) in Sunday’s loss against the Denver Broncos.
Seen in a cast after the game, McCown will undergo further testing. But it’s hard to imagine that he’ll see the field in the final three games of what has been a surprising season for the Jets.
In talking about his first year in New Jersey and the aforementioned injury, McCown teared up. It was something to behold. And it tells us a story of a quarterback that has passion for both the game as well as his teammates. Warning, this is somewhat hard to watch without tissues nearby.

McCown, 38, has been solid all season for the Jets. He’s completing 67 percent of his passes for 2,926 yards with 18 touchdowns and just nine interceptions.
It remains to be seen if McCown will be back with the Jets next season. The team is said to be open to that possibility, but it will assuredly also add a young signal caller early in the 2018 NFL Draft.
For now, the veteran deserves our respect for his passion and commitment to his teammates. No matter how depressing it seems on the surface, that’s some really solid stuff.
