Jets OC wants Josh McCown back for 2018 season

Who knew when the 2017 NFL season kicked off that New York Jets quarterback Josh McCown would become such a sensation? Well he has been quite good, and that is why Jets offensive coordinator John Morton wants McCown to play next season.

“Sure. Why wouldn’t I?” Morton said, per Daniel Popper of The New York Daily News. “Look at the stats. But I don’t make that decision. You can ask the head coach that and the people upstairs.”

McCown is having a far superior season than most projected he would back at the start of September. He is completing 67.8 percent of his passes, has thrown for 18 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. McCown has also demonstrated his mobility having tallied 117 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The five rushing touchdowns tie for a league high with some of the NFL’s younger quarterbacks. McCown is 38 years-old.

McCown has been turning lemons into lemonade this year. In particular, McCown and wide receiver Robby Anderson have looked magical on the field. Anderson has caught seven of McCown’s 18 passing touchdowns.

Instead of tanking, McCown’s Jets have done the opposite of that. The team is currently still alive in contention for the playoffs, situated as the No. 10 seed in the AFC.

It is no wonder Morton hopes the Jets can find a way to re-sign McCown for the 2018 season.
