It was about this time last year that youngster Miguel Andujar looked like the future of the hot corner for the New York Yankees.
After what we saw transpire this past season, that might no longer be the case. Speaking at the annual general manager meetings in Arizona, Yankees front office head Brian Cashman openly noted that they have received a lot of interest in the 2018 AL Rookie of the Year runner-up.
“I’m definitely getting a lot of interest in Miguel Andujar while I’m sitting down here,” Cashman said, via SNY. “I’ve got clubs asking me, ‘What are you going to do with him? We’d have an interest in him. Mark us down.'”
Andujar, 24, missed all but 12 games this past season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. In his stead, Gio Urshela posted a .314 average with 21 homers, 74 RBI and a robust .889 OPS.
Once considered a top prospect, Andujar could help New York net a top-end starting pitcher on the trade market.
The Dominican native hit .297 with 27 homers and 92 RBI as a rookie in 2018.
