The New York Yankees are not expecting starting pitcher Luis Severino to be available until after the All-Star break, general manager Brian Cashman divulged on Sunday.
In an interview with the MLB Network on SiriusXM radio, Cashman said, “We won’t see Severino until after the All-Star break,” per Jim Bowden.
Severino has been out since before the season began. He started the 2019 season on the injured list due to rotator cuff inflammation. More recently, the Yankees revealed he would miss at least six weeks due to a Grade 2 strain of his right lat.
If he had been available, Severino likely would have been the Yankees’ Opening Day starter. He was rock solid last season, posting a 3.39 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 220 strikeouts in 191.1 innings over 32 starts.
