Yankees’ Aaron Hicks likely out for the season

The New York Yankees placed veteran outfielder Aaron Hicks on the injured list in early August with a flexor strain. It seemed to be a minor injury.

In the month-plus since being sidelined, things have taken a turn. Hicks and the Yankees are deciding whether Tommy John Surgery is needed. Until that decision is made, he’s been told to rest for several more weeks, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post.

For all intents and purposes, this means Hicks’ season is over. The 29-year-old veteran was hitting .235 with 12 homers and 36 RBI on the season.

With Hicks likely sidelined throughout the postseason, New York will continue to rely on Cameron Maybin more than they’d like.
