Wyndham Clark will never forget 2023, his year of “firsts” — his first PGA Tour win, his first victory in a major tournament, and now, his first selection to the United States Ryder Cup team.
Clark, 29, joins Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked player in the world, as an automatic qualifier for the United States team, his spot cemented via Ryder Cup points. The U.S. squad will compete against the top players in Europe from Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome.
A Colorado native who resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., Clark has just two PGA Tour victories — the Wells Fargo Championship at Charlotte, N.C., in May and the U.S. Open at The Los Angeles Country Club in June.
He turned pro in 2017 and qualified for the PGA Tour in the 2018-19 season.
Clark’s 2023 success has vaulted him to No. 11 in the world rankings after he was No. 109 as recently as The Players Championship in March. He has seven top-10 finishes this season.
Four more spots on the U.S. Ryder Cup team will be filled from the points list. The final six spots will be selected by captain Zach Johnson and announced after the Tour Championship Aug. 24-27 at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
