No. 7 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic defeated unseeded Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-2, 7-6 (6) on Sunday to win the bett1open in Berlin, Germany.

It was the 31st career title and sixth on grass for the two-time Wimbledon champion, who saved four of five break points in the 1-hour, 41-minute final. At 33, Kvitova is the oldest winner of the Berlin title and trails only Venus Williams (49) in overall singles titles among active players.

Kvitova has won 12 of her last 13 matches on grass, losing just four sets over that span dating back to last season’s title run at Eastbourne.

Rothesay Classic

No. 2 seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia won her first title of the season with a 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory against top-seeded Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic in Birmingham, England.

Ostapenko improved to 5-2 all-time against Krejcikova. She won 67 percent (28 of 37) of the points on her second serve, compared to 50 percent (17 of 34) for Krejcikova.
