On Thursday, April 26, the Arizona Cardinals made Marvin Harrison Jr. the fourth pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Typically, when a team makes a first-round selection, memorabilia sales go through the roof as fans rush to get the latest jersey from their favorite team. But that isn’t the case with Harrison.

While there’s a great amount of fanfare surrounding Harrison’s arrival in Arizona, none of his Cardinals merchandise can even be purchased, because the NFLPA doesn’t have the licensing.

Before players are even drafted, they’re asked to sign an agreement with the NFL Players Association that allows their name and likeness to be monetized. Only, Harrison refused to sign his name on the dotted line, and many are wondering why.

Marvin Harrison Jr. seemingly miffed at NFL’s ties to Fanatics

Thanks to Pat McAfee, we now know why Harrison’s Cardinals jersey cannot be purchased, and it has more to do with the NFL’s ties to the Fanatics group.

“I guess there was an offer made to Marvin Harrison Jr. whenever he was a sophomore in college, which happens to a lot of guys, where if you sign it, a card deal, an autograph deal, it’s for four years. So it goes all the way into your second year of the NFL. Marvin Harrison, who doesn’t need the money, said, ‘We’re not taking that deal. We’re not signing the deal.”

Another added aspect to all this is that fans who are eager to play with Marvin Harrison Jr. on the latest Madden video game release won’t even be able to use the Cardinals’ newest star, as he won’t be in the game without signing his NFLPA agreement.

While Harrison’s jersey is not available now, expectations are that a contract will be able to be reached in due time.
