The Texas Longhorns came into the Red River Showdown needing leadership and discipline from their defense.
Instead, senior defensive tackle and captain Malcolm Roach burned his team with a brutal targeting hit on Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb had already gone down to the ground when Roach lowered his head and directly delivered a shot to Lamb. The officials immediately flagged the Longhorns’ captain for the flag and ejected him after replay confirmed the call.
The Longhorns finally had grabbed some momentum by scoring the game-tying touchdown on the previous drive. Roach’s mistake gifted Oklahoma additional yards and plenty of energy to work with.
