The Oklahoma Sooners don’t look like the No. 6 team in the nation Saturday against Kansas, and one series highlighted this to perfection.
Late in the second quarter, the Sooners were looking at 1st-and-goal from Kansas’ seven-yard line. Not long afterward, they ended up punting on 4th-and-goal from the Kansas 44-yard line.
Wait, what?
First, Jalen Hurts was sacked for a loss of 10 yards. Then, CeeDee Lamb was brought down for a loss of 20 yards on a failed running play. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Marquis Hayes bumped the Sooners back to the 44-yard line after Hurts completed a 19-yard pass on third down.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you go from a 1st-and-goal from your opponent’s seven-yard line to punting on 4th-and-goal.
