WATCH: Saints fans furious with refs over 10-second runoff at end of first half

New Orleans Saints fans showed up to Monday night’s game demonstrably salty against the refs, thanks to last year’s blown non-call in the NFC Championship Game. So, they didn’t need much motivation to get riled up again.

Late in the second quarter with 26 seconds left on the game clock, the refs initiated a review of a catch of Michael Thomas, after which they correctly issued a 10-second runoff.

This may not be pretty. If they change this to a first down, they will reset the clock to what it was when the runner went down and run 10 seconds.

This is what the official gamebook said: (:48) Brees pass deep left to Thomas to NO 47 for 17 yards. Saints elected to not take a time-out w/ the review, & a 10-second runoff was called. The Replay Official reviewed the pass completion ruling, and the play was Upheld.

Fans were livid, despite the fact that the referee crew got this call correct. Though, to be fair, it is a stupid rule.

Now hold up the saints didn’t ask for that replay, they were already up there running another play that would have gotten the first down anyways so why is there a 10 second runoff??

Saints got bent over by the refs again. How do you get a reversal in your favor and get a 10-second runoff?!?! If anything, they should’ve got 10 seconds added to the game clock. When Thomas caught the ball for a first down, he got out of bounds!!!
