Missouri safety Tyree Gillespie was ejected Saturday for a vicious hit on Vanderbilt quarterback Mo Hasan, who was already down on the ground.
The targeting call was an easy one to make, and Hasan had to be helped off the field, woozy after being struck in the head on this brutal shot.
As a result of his ejection, Gillespie will also have to miss the first half of the Tigers’ next game against Kentucky.
We’ve seen many unfair targeting calls over the years, but this one is the reason the rule exists in the first place. There is absolutely no place for these types of hits in football. We just hope Hasan escaped this with his health intact.
