The Washington Huskies are officially on the prowl for a new head coach with Kalen DeBoir being introduced by the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.
It’s a bittersweet moment. Less than a week after Washington appeared in the national championship game, the football program is hitting the reset button.
We do have some information regarding the early stages of this search. It’s rather interesting.
According to Justin Spears the Arizona Daily Star, the Huskies are targeting current Arizona Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch to be their new head coach. Coincidentally, Fisch is also a candidate to replace Mike Vrabel with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.

Fisch is intriguing for a number of reasons. He led Arizona to a 10-3 record this past season after the team posted a combined 6-18 record in his first two seasons. It represented the Wildcats’ most successful campaign since all the way back in 1974. That’s not a typo.
The 47-year-old Fisch also has vast experience at both the collegiate and professional levels. His highest status prior to being hired by Arizona ahead of the 2021 season was as the UCLA interim head coach in 2017. Fisch has been on staffs with the Florida Gators, Minnesota Gophers, Miami Hurricanes and aforementioned Bruins at the college level.
What makes his potential hiring to replace Kalen DeBoir so intriguing is that he has a ton of experience at the professional level, too. That includes stints as assistants with the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.
With the Washington Huskies set to play ball in the Big Ten moving forward, hiring someone with this amount of experience would make a ton of sense.
