Until we see New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz actually in uniform and on the field in Week 1, news that he will be “good to go” by then is difficult to take seriously.
According to Seth Walder of The New York Daily News, the word is that Cruz should be active for training camp and ready to play in Week 1.
Considering we have seen much more of Cruz behind the scenes either modeling atĀ a New York photo shootĀ or promoting his Nike line, news of his reported return should at least excite his fans.
The last time we saw Cruz on the field was when he injured his patellar tendon in Week 6 of the 2014 season. Cruz had been hopeful to play in 2015, but a slew of other injuries prevented him for participating the entire season.
At this time, Cruz is practicing in drills, but is on a limitedĀ pitch count, per Walder. This is certainly wise considering we still have four months until the Giants season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 11. Upping Cruz’s practice reps could potentially result in a backfire.
Wanting to remain with the Giants, Cruz recently had his pay restructured.
Should heĀ be able to play at full-speed upon his return, the Giants’ offense, featuring Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie Sterling Shepard, will be a force for opposing defenses to shut down.
