The Giants released a short statement right after this news broke Saturday.

Originally a seventh-round pick out of Northwestern State in 2013, Bowie started eight games as a rookie with the Seattle Seahawks. He won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks that year but was released in 2014. Since that time, Bowie has been with the Cleveland Browns and now the Giants.
Though Bowie hasn’t started or played in a regular-season game since 2013, he was fighting for a roster spot in New York this year.
