There’s going to be rumors swirling around Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving until he makes a free-agent decision some time in early July.
Until then, it all seems to be innuendo. That’s until we check in on Vegas odds to land the NBA champ.
According to Superbooks (h/t Complex) in the desert metropolis, the Brooklyn Nets are in fact favored to land Irving with +250 odds. The New York Knicks come in at second (+300) while the Boston Celtics boast (+350) odds of retaining the star guard.
The Nets’ entrance into the sweepstakes shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Rumors have been swirling that the up-and-coming squad might land a star player or two during the summer.
As much as the Knicks have been talked about when it comes to both Irving and Kevin Durant, Brooklyn might actually be a better option for star players.
The team has proven to boast an effective front office with a young roster and one of the best young coaches in the game, Kenny Atkinson.
Whether this will equate to Irving spurning the Knicks and Celtics for Brooklyn remains to be seen.
What we do know is that Boston is on the cusp of elimination against Milwaukee in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. That could lead to Irving’s departure from Boston much earlier than most anticipated at the start of the season.
