Tyler Adams is the 2022 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.
A finalist for the award in 2018 and 2020, Adams was the overwhelming choice after captaining the United States men’s national team at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The 23-year-old midfielder received 71.6 percent of the votes, followed by winger Christian Pulisic with 14.7 percent and goalkeeper Matt Turner with 8.2 percent.
“Receiving this type of recognition is certainly special, but for me the team’s success is the most important thing,” Adams said. “Having the experience of going to the World Cup, performing well as a group and moving the sport forward in the United States was super important to me this year, and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates.”
Adams played every minute of the Americans’ run to the World Cup Round of 16. He was named the Man of the Match in group stage draws against Wales and England.
Professionally, he helped Germany’s RB Leipzig win the DFB-Pokal trophy before moving to the Premier League’s Leeds United in July.
