Phil Mickelson is all of us. Every single last one of us. Like most pros at the 2018 U.S. Open in New York, Lefty has struggled something fierce thus far this week. Conditions at Shinnecock haven’t been indicative of success.
Though, Phil took that to a completely different level on the 13th hole Saturday. Already completely out of the race, Mickelson melted down in a big way. Watch the epic scene below.

Yes, that’s what we’d call a meltdown. It resulted in a two-stroke penalty for Mickelson to bring him to an eye-opening plus-16 after taking a 10 on the par four.
It goes without saying that the Twitterverse had a lot to say about this. Most related to Mickelson’s actions, while others were simply stunned by the amateurish display.

Phil Mickelson is off the rails. Putting like a four year old out there. pic.twitter.com/doUMMHORNJ

What in the name of Harry Vardon did Phil Mickelson just do??
He just Roy McAvoy’d that last putt.
It was beautiful. Announcers making it sound like he stabbed somebody. Calm down. It’s just golf.

Phil Mickelson’s misstep at the US Open was the most stunning thing I’ve seen on a golf course since the time Happy Gilmore ripped off a guy’s shirt, punched him so hard that he rolled down a hill and then handed the guy’s shirt to another patron at the 1996 Waterbury Open.

Fox sure is dramatizing Phil Mickelson's intentional penalty on the broadcast. His reputation will take a hit for that? Give it a rest. No rational person is going to lose respect for Phil over that.

“Welcome friends, and if you’re just joining us, Phil Mickelson has lost his mind.”

Everyone always complains about pace of play. Phil Mickelson finds a way to speed it up and everyone complains more. I mean, you just can't win.

Phil Mickelson entered today's round at the US Open with 200-1 odds to win. Not going to happen.pic.twitter.com/lDKzteiJlh
