Twins sign slugger Carlos Santana, RHP Jay Jackson

The Minnesota Twins signed first baseman Carlos Santana and right-hander Jay Jackson to one-year contracts on Wednesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the Twins for either deal, however multiple media outlets reported Santana’s contract is worth $5.25 million plus incentives. FanSided.com on Wednesday reported Jackson’s deal is worth $1.3 million with a $3 million club option.

Santana was a National League Gold Glove finalist last season. He posted 23 home runs, 33 doubles and 86 RBIs in 146 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers.

Santana, 37, is a career .242/.356/.432 hitter with 301 home runs and 1,011 RBIs in 1,930 games over 14 seasons with the Cleveland franchise (2010-17, 2019-20), Philadelphia Phillies (2018), Kansas City Royals (2021-22), Seattle Mariners (2022), Pittsburgh and Milwaukee.

He made the American League All-Star team and won a Silver Slugger Award in 2019.

Jackson, 36, posted a 3-1 record with a 2.12 ERA in 25 relief appearances last season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

He owns a 6-2 mark with a 3.50 ERA in 84 career games (one start) with the San Diego Padres (2015), Brewers (2019), San Francisco Giants (2021), Atlanta Braves (2022) and Blue Jays (2023).

Also on Wednesday, the Twins claimed right-hander Zack Weiss off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Weiss, 31, had a 1-0 record with a 3.21 ERA in 12 games last season split between Boston and the Los Angeles Angels.
