The Minnesota Twins placed designated hitter Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list on Friday (retroactive to Wednesday) with a right hamstring strain.
Buxton is slashing .207/.294/.438 this season with 17 home runs, 42 RBIs and 49 runs. He’s played in 85 of Minnesota’s 110 games this season, entering Friday, and has eclipsed 100 games played only once in his nine-year career.
Buxton hit 28 home runs in only 92 games last season. He was 6-for-12 with five doubles over his past four games.
A former No. 2 overall draft pick by the Twins in 2012, Buxton has a career .239 batting average with 115 home runs, 297 RBIs, 364 runs and 86 stolen bases.
In a corresponding move, the Twins claimed outfielder/first baseman Jordan Luplow, 29, off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays and placed him on the active roster.
