Travis Kelce ankle injury forces Kansas City Chiefs tight end out in second quarter

UPDATE: Kelce has since returned to the game after initially appearing on the sideline with tape around his foot/ankle. CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson has reported that it was up to Kelce on whether he wanted to return.

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are on the road at U.S. Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5. Unlike in past weeks, Taylor Swift is not in attendance.

That didn’t prevent the Chiefs from scoring a touchdown on their first drive, but Kelce has otherwise been limited to five receptions for 22 yards on six targets from Patrick Mahomes.

Now, Kelce’s day could be limited after suffering an ankle injury in the second quarter.

Kelce caught a short pass for zero yards as the All-Pro tight end slipped on the artificial turf instead. It was a strange outcome, with a first down appearing to be in reach, had he not slipped or been hurt on the play.

Kelce got up limping, and returned to the sideline for a brief medical evaluation. A visibly frustrated Kelce has since gone back to the locker room after the non-contact injury.

The Chiefs’ tight end is questionable to return with what’s being labeled as an ankle injury. Kansas City’s next game delivers a short turnaround with the Chiefs set to face the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
