The thrills and spills of the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals are every bit of the appeal of the event as the close competition and its list notable winners.
As part of that close competition, drivers occasionally go for a tumble and have always emerged out the other end unscathed in the Tulsa Expo Center, a testament to chassis safety but also the slower speeds they turn while racing around the quarter mile inside the Tulsa Expo Center.
It’s a badge of honor to have contributed to the running tally over the years as long as no one gets hurt.
To wit, the flip count was turned off last year when Ashton Torgerson was hospitalized after getting dislodged from his car in a freak accident, which has prompted conversation about whether it should continue into 2024.
Sportsnaut will continue recording the flips in the Expo Center for posterity this year and its reasons for doing so are best articulated by veteran chassis builder Flea Ruzic.
