Tampa police investigating incident involving DeSean Jackson

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson’s first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has not gone according to plan. The team sits at 4-11 heading into its season finale against New Orleans on Sunday and Jackson himself is currently in the midst of what would be the worst season of his career.

News isn’t getting much better for either Jackson or the Buccaneers. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, police in Tampa Bay are investigating a single-car accident from Sunday night that involved a Chevy Silverado registered in Jackson’s name.

According to a police write-up obtained by NFL.com, the driver of this vehicle fled the scene before authorities arrived. But it gets even more damning for Jackson.

“In the car, police found 6.3 grams of marijuana and also found two .38 caliber hollow-point bullets, which are legal in Florida. Possession in Florida of less than 20 grams of marijuana is a misdemeanor. The vehicle was impounded,” the report read.

Though, one of Jackson’s representatives, Denise White, is claming that a friend was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.

“It was a friend of DeSean’s who borrowed his car while he was out of town,” White said. “None of what was in the car was his obviously. He’s dealing with the person that was using it without his knowledge privately. The incident is being handled.”

The Buccaneers did play in Carolina on the day in question. But Jackson was inactive and did not travel with the team. Officials from the Bucs had no comment on the situation.

It’s a developing story. We will definitely have more information as soon as it becomes available.
