The Dallas Stars and breakout star forward Jason Robertson agreed to a four-year contract worth $31 million late Wednesday night.

Robertson was holding out of the Stars’ preseason camp while negotiations were ongoing. The sides got a deal in place one week before Dallas opens the regular season at the Nashville Predators on Oct. 13.

The 23-year-old scored a team-high 41 goals and added 38 assists in 74 games last season, including 13 power-play goals and 11 game-winning goals. It was just his second full season in the NHL, one year after he made the NHL All-Rookie first team after tallying 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) in 51 games.

“Jason is an integral part of the present and future of our team and we’re thrilled to have him for the next four years,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said in a news release. “Since he was drafted by our organization, he has worked tirelessly to become a better player every day. His knack for scoring goals and seeing plays develop on the ice are just some of the tremendous assets that he brings to our team. He is one of the best young players in the NHL and we look forward to seeing him continue to progress.”

Robertson was a second-round draft pick by Dallas in 2017. The California native also finished second in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy for NHL rookie of the year in 2020-21.
