Paul Tracy, an SRX original from the inaugural season, has been suspended by the series for over-aggressive driving on Thursday night atPulaski County Motorsports Park.
Tracy triggered a five-car incident on Lap 89 when he drifted into Josef Newgarden and sent them both into the wall. The incident also collected Kenny Schrader and Hailie Deegan. Schrader told ESPN pit reporter Matt Yocum after the crash that he was done racing in the series if Tracy would be in the field.
Tracy, the 2003 CART IndyCar Series champion, has played the role of heel and villain in the series since 2021 but SRX has concluded that he has taken it too far after causing crashes in back-to-back weeks.
“We take issues regarding driver safety extremely seriously at SRX,” said SRX Chief Executive Officer Don Hawk. “This is not a decision we take lightly. It is our responsibility to ensure that we foster a competitive, and most importantly, a safe racing environment. I have been in contact with Paul directly and we appreciate his cooperation on this matter.”
Tracy was fourth in the championship standings, 33 markers behind points leader Ryan Newman.
SRX has not revealed a length of suspension nor has it announced a potential replacement driver for the next race on Thursday night at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.
