Sports world reacts to Dolphins stunning upset over Patriots

Ryan Fitzpatrick

The New England Patriots entered Week 17 as overwhelming favorites against the Miami Dolphins. A win would have clinched a first-round bye for the Patriots, but Ryan Fitzpatrick brought out the “Fitzmagic” one more time.

After driving Miami’s offense down the field to take a 20-17 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Fitzpatrick needed to answer following Tom Brady’s go-ahead touchdown with under four minutes left.

The 37-year-old quarterback moved down the field with surgeon-like precision on his passes. After spreading the ball to move inside the five-yard line, Fitzpatrick found tight end Mike Gesicki for the go-ahead touchdown with 24 seconds left in the game.

A last-ditch effort by Brady and the Patriots offense fell short and kissed their shot at a first-round bye farewell. As Miami celebrated an upset few saw coming, the NFL world erupted in celebration as Fitzmagic delivered the biggest upset of the NFL season.
