Shopify Rebellion tag Cloud9 with first loss at LCS 2024 Spring Split

Former Late Show host David Letterman visits Ball State's Robert Bell building to help announce the establishment of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Scholarship. The scholarship will award $5,000 to two of the university's esports athletes each year until 2026. Two RLL drivers, Jack Harvey and Christian Lundgaard, participated in an INDYCAR-Motorsport challenge from the Ball State Esports Center during the event.

Shopify Rebellion prevailed in 27 minutes on blue on Sunday to hand Cloud9 their first loss of the League Championship Series 2024 Spring Split.

With the victory, Shopify Rebellion improved to 1-3, while Cloud9 dropped to 3-1. Cloud9 totaled just six kills as a team in the loss. Shopify had 20.

Eight teams are participating in this year’s spring split, with all matches in the double round-robin group stage best-of-one.

The top six teams will advance to the playoffs, which begin March 14. The top four teams will be in the upper bracket, while the fifth- and sixth-place teams will head to the lower bracket. All playoff matches are best-of-five, including the March 31 grand final.

In addition to earning $100,000, the winner of the grand final will also qualify for the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational in Chengdu, China. The runner-up will also earn a berth in that event, which runs from May 1-19.

FlyQuest also fell for the first time on Sunday, losing to NRG, who came out on top in 29 minutes on blue. American Cristian “Palafox” Palafox led the winning side with an 8-3-7 kills-deaths-assists ratio.

In other action Sunday, 100 Thieves beat Dignitas and Team Liquid toppled Immortals.

Lim “Quid” Hyeon-seung recorded a 6-4-11 K-D-A for 100 Thieves, who took 37 minutes to secure the victory on red.

Team Liquid was paced by the United States’ Eain “APA” Stearns. He finished with seven kills, three deaths and six assists as his squad won in 37 minutes on blue.
