A new report gives the impression that the Seattle Seahawks have found Pete Carroll’s replacement.

Earlier this month, a legendary era was brought to an end in Seattle. After 14 seasons leading the team, the organization decided to end the tenure of head coach Pete Carroll. While there had been rumblings of growing pressure on the 72-year-old, the decision was still surprising after only having three losing years in a memorable run that included the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory and two trips to the big game.

However, while the Seahawks were one of eight franchises in search of a new head coach just a couple of weeks ago, they were just one of two organizations that had yet to fill the role. Despite legendary head coach Bill Belichick being available, and 2021 Coach of the Year Mike Vrabel still being on the market.

With the organization being so patient, all signs pointed to them having a strong interest in a coordinator for one of the teams that were in this past weekend’s Conference Championship games. Well, on Wednesday we got some clarity on which coach the team has had their eye on, and now it seems he’s being hired as their next head coach.

Mike Macdonald expected to become next Seattle Seahawks head coach

Yesterday, it was revealed that Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald had spoken with the Seattle Seahawks decision-makers about their job opening this week. Then on Wednesday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that MacDonald was now set to have a second interview with the team in the coming days.

Shortly after reports about the interview broke, even bigger news followed, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter noting that Macdonald is ‘expected to be hired‘. Macdonald’s contract with the Seahawks is currently being finalized.

As of now, he is the only candidate who is believed to have had a second interview with the organization. This was a very strong indicator he would likely get the job, barring any unforeseen setbacks.

After serving as the defensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines in 2021, MacDonald returned for a second stint with the Ravens for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He had previously served as linebackers and defensive backs coach for the team and he earned assistant of the year honors this season for his impressive work overseeing an elite Baltimore defense.
