Seahawks GM Would Not Be Surprised if Marshawn Lynch Retires

We all know silence is Seattle Seahawks’ running back Marshawn Lynch’s MO. So, it is no surprise that he has yet to update anyone, including the Seahawks general manager John Schneider, of his future plans with or without the team.

When asked if he would be surprised if Lynch just walked away, Schneider had this to say at the NFL Scouting Combine.

You know? Not really. He’s a guy that kind of beats to his own drum. He does what he wants. He would never let you know one way or the other. There’s been a lot of great running backs that have just walked away. So I have no idea.

Lynch is currently taking his sweet time, which is his prerogative to decide how he wishes to proceed in 2015. Recent reports that he is dealing with a chronic and debilitating back injury will weigh heavily in Lynch’s decision.

When Schneider was asked how the team would be impacted should Lynch proceed with his retirement plans, his response was…

We’ll have to adjust, but we have to do that at every position, so we constantly have models and plans for what’s coming. We’d just have to move forward with Plan B.

Plan B likely means running backs Robert Turbin and Christine Michael will be called to duty if Lynch parts ways.

Should Lynch quietly walk away from the game of football, he would depart as one of the best running backs of the modern era. Though, we are pretty sure the enigmatic personality still has a sour taste in his mouth after not being given the ball at the end of the Super Bowl earlier this month.
