A lot was made last season that Central Florida didn’t earn a spot in the College Football Playoff after finishing up the regular season with a perfect record.
Once then-coach Scott Frost and the Knights defeated Auburn in the Peach Bowl, this was taken to an entirely new level.
With Frost now coaching in Nebraska, Central Florida once again heads into the bowl season with a perfect mark. But much like last season, that wasn’t enough for the program to earn a spot in the CFP. Instead, Central Florida finished No. 8 overall in the final rankings.
Interestingly enough, Frost himself didn’t even have the Knights as a top-four team in his final ballot.
Favorite tidbit of the always-fun coaches' final ballots from the coaches' poll: Only one coach, Middle Tennessee's Rick Stockstill, had UCF among the top four.
And former UCF coach Scott Frost? He only had UCF at No. 5. https://t.co/uPdiO2NQsT pic.twitter.com/lK8erExB1z

That’s alarming for a number of reasons. First off, Frost was outspoken with the belief that his Knights should’ve earned a final-four spot last season. We’re not too sure what changed between then and now.
Secondly, it tells us a story of a subjective mind in Frost failing to believe that Central Florida should have earned a CFP spot.
As it is, the Knights will take on LSU in the Fiesta Bowl. As it relates to the playoff, Alabama will go up against Oklahoma with two undefeated teams — Clemson and Notre Dame — taking on one another in the other semifinal.
