It’s the last thing the New Orleans Saints needed. Still boasting among the most talent-stricken defenses in the NFL, New Orleans needs everyone on that side of the field to be healthy if the team hopes to earn a playoff spot this season.
Unfortunately, starting cornerback Delvin Breaux will not be on the field when New Orleans opens its regular season against the Minnesota Vikings.
Breaux, who has been sidelined with what was originally diagnosed as a leg contusion, is now said to have suffered a fractured fibula and will miss 4-6 weeks.
” The news of Breaux’s fracture comes after it was originally misdiagnosed as a contusion,” NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported. “The Saints fired two team orthopedists because of the bad diagnosis.”
Well, that’s just not good. If Breaux was diagnosed correctly in the first place, he likely would have been able to return for the regular season. That’s no longer going to be the case.
The third-year cornerback missed alll but six games last season with a fractured fibula and shoulder injury. Back in 2015, as a rookie, Breaux recorded 45 tackles, 19 passes defended and three interceptions in 16 games. He’s started 21 of the 22 games he’s appeared in since joining the Saints back in 2015.
New Orleans finished last season dead last in the NFL against the pass, yielding 4,380 yards to go with 27 touchdowns through the air. Needless to say, Breaux’s absense will hurt this team big time.
