Russell Okung reveals he suffered a Pulmonary Embolism

Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung

Los Angeles Chargers starting left tackle Russell Okung opened camp on the active/non-football injury list with an undisclosed medical condition.

It was widely reported that Okung was dealing with a potentially scary health issue. Now, thanks to Okung himself, we know what he is working through.

Okung shared on his Twitter account that he felt “unusual chest pain” at a practice on June 1st, which prompted him to go to urgent care “out of an abundance of caution.” He shared that the doctors that treated him said it likely saved his life.

The reason being, Okung suffered a Pulmonary Embolism caused by blood clots. He says he’s “okay now” and hopes to be on the field in due course.

“I’m feeling great physically. It’s not an ankle or shoulder. As soon as doctors clear me, my plans include blocking #17’s blind side all the way to Miami,” Okung concluded.

We wish Okung nothing but the best as he continues to recover.
