Tragedy has taken yet another young MLB star. Mere months after Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins passed away in a boating accident in Florida, comes this horrible news from the Kansas City Royals.
Yordano Ventura, 25, died following a car accident in his native Dominican Republic on Sunsay. There’s no further information available regarding his death outside of photos taken at the seen of the accident.
In announcing the passing of their talented young pitcher, the Royals released a statement Sunday morning.

“Our prayers right now are with Yordano’s family as we mourn this young man’s passing,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore, via the team’s official website. “He was so young and so talented, full of youthful exuberance and always brought a smile to everyone he interacted with. We will get through this as an organization, but right now is a time to mourn and celebrate the life of Yordano.”
Ventura played a huge role in the Royals’ World Series winning squad back in 2015, posting a 13-8 record with a 4.08 ERA in 28 starts. That came immediately after a rookie season that saw him go 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA en route to helping lead Kansas City to the American League pennant.
Here at Sportsnaut, our thoughts are with Ventura’s family, the Royals organizationa and the entire MLB world. Tragedy has taken another shining star around the baseball diamond, and it’s almost too surreal to fathom.
