The Carolina Panthers will trot out rookie quarterback Will Grier for the second week in a row in Week 17 as they close out the season against the New Orleans Saints.
Interim head coach Perry Fewell announced that Grier will start next Sunday.
This past Sunday, Grier struggled mightily in his first-ever NFL start. He threw three interceptions, finishing the game with 224 yards and no touchdowns as the Panthers lost 38-6 to the Indianapolis Colts.
Barring a significant improvement in Week 17 from the rookie, it’s looking like the Saints will have little trouble doing their part to potentially land the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC.
As for the Panthers, it makes sense to start Grier again to see if he can show improvement as the team evaluates its quarterback situation long term.
