During Wednesday’s game, Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Márquez became a part of an exclusive group, doing something only one other pitcher has done in franchise history.
In the fourth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Márquez achieved an immaculate inning. On nine pitches, he struck out Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco on nine pitches

The 23-year-old became the second pitcher in team history to record an immaculate inning. Even more impressively, more pitchers have thrown a no-hitter than pitched an immaculate inning, so Marquez is truly a rare part of history.
While it has been a rough season for Márquez, instances like this show he is a very capable pitcher. He faced Pittsburgh’s best three hitters and sent them with ease to achieve history.
This marks the third time this season a pitcher has thrown an immaculate inning with Marquez joining Atlanta Braves pitcher Kevin Gausman and Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer.
