Unsigned Ottawa Senators center Shane Pinto will be suspended 41 games by the NHL for violating the league’s gambling policy, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
It is not immediately known what Pinto did to receive the suspension.
Per Sportsnet, the NHL began an investigation into Pinto over the summer.
Pinto, an unrestricted free agent, has yet to play in a game this season. Per the Ottawa Sun, the Senators have rescinded all previous contract offers to Pinto.
Pinto, 22, recorded 35 points (20 goals, 15 assists) in 82 games in 2022-23. He has 43 points (21 goals, 22 assists) in 99 career games since being selected by Ottawa in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
