Less than a week into Brian Daboll’s tenure as the New York Giants’ head coach, one of his first moves would make team history.

According to multiple reports Wednesday, Daboll is hiring Laura Young to be the team’s director of coaching operations. It is believed that Young would be the first woman on the coaching staff in team history.

Young is hardly a newcomer to NFL coaching staffs, however, and her previous experience helped land her the role with the Giants. She comes to the Giants from the Buffalo Bills, with whom she was the player services coordinator. Prior to joining the Giants, Daboll was the Bills’ offensive coordinator for four seasons.

Among Young’s duties with the Bills was co-coordinating the club’s COVID-19 protocol the past two seasons. She previously worked with the Baltimore Ravens in client services and went with Rex Ryan to the New York Jets to serve as his assistant.

The Giants hired Hannah Burnett as their first full-time female scout in 2020.

The Giants earlier this month fired head coach Joe Judge after the club went 10-23 in his two seasons. New York hired Daboll, 46, last week.

While with Buffalo, Daboll was praised for his work developing Josh Allen into one of the game’s premier quarterbacks. In 2021, the Bills ranked third in the league in scoring offense (28.4 points per game) and fifth in total offense (381.9 yards per game).
