While the Los Angeles Dodgers were victorious over other the New York Yankees in acquiring shortstop Manny Machado, they will not be the favorites when he hits free agency.
After being traded to the Dodgers on Wednesday, the All-Star shortstop will have a chance to pick his team this offseason. Machado will be a free agent drawing interest from a plethora of teams, but one has the early advantage.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Yankees are the overwhelming favorites to sign Machado when he hits free agency.
It’s far too early, Manny Machado says, to even think about free agency. The #Yankees remain overwhelming favorite to sign Machado this winter

The 26-year-old would likely have to shift back to third base if he signs with New York, but it would add just another All-Star bat to New York’s lethal offense.
Machado is still months away from having to make a decision in free agency and will certainly talk to a lot of teams when the time comes. One thing is for certain, Machado’s nephew has to love hearing New York is the early favorite to sign him.
