Former TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin has been formally charged for his role in an altercation that happened before last season’s Alamo Bowl. Boykin, who was signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an un-drafted free agent, will be charged with a misdemeanor.
“According to court docs obtained by TMZ Sports, the 22-year-old was only officially charged with one count of misdemeanor assault with bodily injury,” the TMZ report said.
That’s not a good look for Boykin, but it could be much worse. He was initially charged with an assault on a peace officer, which is a felony offense. Additionally, much of the incident was captured on video, and Boykin was clearly seen fighting with other patrons.
Being charged with a misdemeanor won’t do anything to help Boykin, but the situation could be much worse — both personally and professionally.
Following the incident, Boykin was suspended for the Alamo Bowl. TCU won without him, coming back from 31-0 to defeat Oregon 47-41 in overtime.
The incident itself was likely one of the primary reasons Boykin wasn’t drafted this past spring. It now remains to be seen whether the charges will impact his ability to make Seattle’s 53-man roster this summer.
