Report: Tom Coughlin meeting with 49ers today

Tom Coughlin is reportedly meeting with the San Francisco 49ers Tuesday about the team’s head coaching vacancy, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

The 49ers have already had meetings with the likes of Hue Jackson (offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals), Chip Kelly (ex-head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles) and Anthony Lynn (running backs coach of the Buffalo Bills).

Coughlin’s resume speaks for itself. Winner of two Super Bowl championships and veteran of the NFL since the mid-1980s, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table unrivaled by any of the other potential candidates.

That he can command a locker room is unquestioned. That he can inspire teams to play their best when the stakes are the highest isn’t an issue, either. Perhaps the biggest issue is the fact that, by the time the 2016 NFL season starts, Coughlin will be 70 years old.

Things are getting interesting, indeed.
