Report: Roger Goodell receives extension from the NFL

NFL gambling, Roger Goodell

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reportedly received the extension that he has been looking for from the league.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the NFL’s Compensation Committee has informed all of the league’s 32 owners that it has approved Goodell’s extension.

“The memorandum to all owners explains that a ‘binding contract extension has been signed by the Commissioner and by Arthur Blank, on behalf of the League entities.’ The memo also cites the existence of a ‘nearly unanimous consensus’ among the owners in favor of finalizing the extension now,” Florio’s report read.

This has been a point of contention around the NFL for months now. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had sought to delay the extension, even going as far as recently hiring a world-renowned lawyer to do his bidding.

Meanwhile, Goodell’s contract demands seemed to be completely out of line with what we see with other commissioner’s around the sports world.

But it now looks like the divisive commissioner has his new deal. Whether that will include lifetime use of a private jet and health insurance remains to be seen.
