Melifonwu was higly regarded for his explosive athleticism leading up to the 2017 NFL Draft, though some thought it was somewhat of a reach when Oakland took him 56th overall last year.
Last year, he was placed on injured reserve and appeared in just five games, earning one start. He tallied a total of six tackles. Melifonwu was once again placed on injured reserve this year and did not appear in any games for the Raiders in 2018 before being waived.
Even though he has been released, Melifonwu’s base salary of $669,972 is guaranteed for this season.
