New Philadelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi is quickly filling out his coaching staff less than a week after they officially named him as the replacement for Gabe Kapler.
According to multiple reports, Philadelphia will hire longtime manager Bryan Price to be its pitching coach.
Talk about experience. Price, 57, began his Major League coaching career with the Seattle Mariners back in 2001. He served as their pitching coach for six seasons before moving on to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the same role from 2007-09.
After spending four seasons as the Cincinnati Reds’ pitching coach, Price was hired to be their manager back in 2014. He served four-plus seasons in that role, posting a combined 279-387 record before being fired early during the 2018 campaign.
Price’s vast experience leading pitching staffs should come in handy as Girardi navigates his way through a highly competitive National League East moving forward.
