According to a report by NFL Media’s Rand Getlin, the New England Patriots have signed former Arizona Cardinals starter Ryan Lindley to a one-year deal.
This falls on the heels of New England cutting its former backup quarterback Matt Flynn who has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Flynn was on the Patriots NFI list and did not practice with the team in training camp.
Lindley now bounces into the mix as extra coverage behind second-year backup Jimmy Garoppolo. Coming from Arizona with only eight regular-season starts and one postseason start in 2014, Lindley has tallied only three touchdowns and 13 interceptions during his three-year career—a scary set of numbers, to be sure.
If Brady’s four-game mandated suspension holds up after his August 12 settlement hearing, the Patriots have what appears to be a shaky backup at best sitting behind Garopplolo.
Perhaps they should consider picking up the phone and placing a call to free agent Michael Vick who still remains hopeful at another shot at playing.
