As the San Diego Padres conduct a thorough search for their next manager, former Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon is reportedly among the candidates being explored.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, San Diego is conducting background work on Maddon.
Maddon and the Cubs parted way this offseason following a 2019 season that saw them win just 84 games. However, Maddon is likely to be the most coveted manager this offseason thanks to his .581 winning percentage in five years with Chicago and .517 winning percentage over nine years with the Tampa Bay Rays.
While the Los Angeles Angels are currently viewed as the favorite to lure Maddon for their open managerial vacancy because of his ties to the organization, San Diego has a lot to offer with its young, talented roster.
